tanning a deer hide
tanning a deer hide
Anybody ever do this?? ive got a nice hide from a deer my brother killed, and I feel like I have all the fat and muscle off of it and am ready to start the tanning process. BUT, it seems like there are a hundred different ways to do it, according to the internet. Anybody have a fairly simple method that has worked for them? Ive got it well salted, drying out right now.

Yes. Very simple. We send ours out to have them tanned. They come back very nicely done.

What shape are your teeth in?

What's the goal? There are kits you can buy that are pretty cheap and easy. Some of them result in a little stiffer hide. If it wall decor, that's OK. For other uses, being a little bit stiff renders the hide useless.

I use to do them with battery acid but I don't remember the recipe. It worked quite well though.
