6 month old GSP size

I have a six month old Male GSP.
His recent vet visit he was weighed in at 28.5 pounds.
Ever since we got him, I've felt he is quite small.
Is this normal weight for this age?
This is the first GSP I've owned and I feel as though our other dogs grew much faster.
Thank you.

Seems to be on the small side. How big were the parents? Small = less food, less poop, and less expensive. Don't worry be happy!

I wouldn't be worried. He'll grow for another 6 months. I never had a GSP over 40 pounds.

I've seen 35 pounders and I've seen 90 pounders. Does it look and act healthy?

My GSP just hit 6 months and weighs in at 37.5. On another note my buddy has a GSP the same age that weighs right at 52lbs.... His sire is 92lbs. I have worried about mine being undersized.

I wouldn't worry . Myself I like them on the smaller side as opposed to the ones you can throw a saddle on. They seem to work this NY cover we hunt the best.

Sharon do you have males under 40 pounds? If so do you ever sell pups?

He'll matured to be on the smaller size and I doubt very seriously that you'll hit the breed standard of 55 lbs for males.

Now that's the bad news. The good news is that, unless you're running a breeding program, it doesn't matter.

With that said, while the general hunting public seems to love dogs that are large for breed standard, guys that run their dogs hard or compete in trails tend to prefer smaller dogs. If it was basketball, you'd want a point guard. Not a center.

Generally, i pick dogs on the lower end of breed standard than the upper end. How many 6'5 marathon runners do you see?

Do you know what a 92lb shorthair will get you besides eating 8 cups of food daily and leaving bear sized turds because I'm at a loss to come up with a positive?

For my tastes, your dog is going to be near an ideal size.

Switched from GSPs to setters in 1992. You have all kinds of fine GSP breeders in the USA. We have "maybe" 2 in ON.

Thanks Sharon. I was thinking you might have a rare line. I don't think I'll find males smaller than 40 pounds.

My female is 38 lbs. She's gets fed 3 cups a day but will eat roughly 2 a day I've never been able to beef her up. Vet said she is healthy and just tiny. Her mom is every bit of 60-65 lbs and dad is just as big. I have an EP black lab mix the same size as her but he weighs 60lbs.

NOT my dog at 92 lbs. I am pretty happy with my pups size. Vet said he would be around 55-60 if he continues this growth.
