Woodcock Hunting in Oklahoma

Post by okie_birdhunter » Mon Jan 02, 2017 10:06 pm

Has anyone hunted woodcock in OK?
I seen one couple years ago while deer hunting, the only one I've ever seen. Couldn't believe my eyes honestly.

Looks like nobody does. My understanding is that the eastern side of the state has some, particularly in the southeast corner.

I've hunted them in eastern OK a little. Mostly because it opens a couple weeks before quail. They're typically not here in any significant numbers at that time. But a day hunting is better than a day not hunting every time. I use them more often in the spring to train on than I do actually trying to kill them in the fall.
