Kennel/crate pad/mat

Post by Nmhuntr » Sat Oct 07, 2017 8:16 pm

I know I ran across some comments in one of the discussions on what people use in their crates and how well they hold up. I need on pad (not a bed) for my new ruff tough kennel I just got in. I am looking for one that will hold up well. I would like to know what you use and how well you like it.

Thanks
Greg

My dog ripped through every crate pad / mat we have put in there within a day to a week. I do not care what it was made out of - he ripped through mud rivers nylon one about 10 minutes after I got home from cabelas. . . We started using a fleece blanket around 6 months ago and it works well. He has no interest in chewing or ripping it. I just noticed the other day that rufftough has a crate mat on there website, which might be nice / durable.

I use carpet samples. Go to any carpet store and they usually have a pile old discontinued samples. They come in different sizes so you should be able to find some to fit your kennel. They are cheap, around $2-3 each. If they get dirty or the dog tears them up throw it out and put a new one in.

I use the horse stall rubber pads you can get at any Farm Home type store. They come in 4' X 4' size and only cost a few bucks. They are impossible for a dog to chew or destroy. Can be easily cleaned. If you get one leave it outside for a few days and the rubber smell dissipates. Anything else made of fabric will make the dog hot...this do not, but do protect from cold. Easy to clean also....
