Barn/kennel camera

Post by dog dr » Thu Jan 25, 2018 3:01 pm

Im looking for a camera system that I can monitor with a cell phone, or with my computer at work. Anybody have anything like that they are really happy with?? Would be used inside a metal barn, which has been the problem with set-ups ive tried in the past. That, and Im about as electronically inclined as a wheelbarrow... Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated.

I've used the Foscam camera as our baby monitor for the last couple of years.

Is your problem that it doesn't get enough wifi reception in the barn? Or was it weather temperature related?

If its weather and temperature related issues you can look at the Nest Outodoor Camera:

I've never used it but Nest stuff I have used is pretty user friendly. If its Wifi issues you can look at Cellular cameras, but I've never messed with those and I don't know the pricing for using the network. Its easier to monitor the cameras and set them up if you are using the same wifi network that the camera is using.

We have an Arlo brand camera at our house. My wife insisted after a slew of car break ins at our old place.

It works well enough, but you need to be connected to the Wifi. Assuming your barn doesn't have its own router, how far off the house is it? Do you get wifi signal there?

That's part of the problem. the router is in the house (about 50 yards away) and our internet isn't the greatest to begin with.

Spotty wifi can make it difficult. We put a wifi extender in our house and it reaches down to our shop. You can try this one from Netgear: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Nighthaw ... 18a8348879

It says it has a range of over 50 yards, if you can handle the price it might do the trick to get a wifi camera working for you.
