Springers in NY

Post by MGIII » Sun Feb 18, 2018 8:43 pm

My friend lives in Greenfield Center, NY and is looking for a new dog. They currently have an English Springer Spaniel and are hoping to find another one.
They have heard of quite a few bad breeds up there with bad genetics and all kinds of problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Those all look like nice dog's. More important is they are field dogs. Beware of getting bench dog. A lot of them don't hunt at all!

My first ever gundog was a show type springer spaniel . A helluva nice dog but he couldn't have hunted his dinner in a dish !

Your friend may already know, but the field bred dog and the bench bred dog are almost different breeds. Most of the problems with breeding come with bench bred dogs. While both will hunt, the field bred is going to be better. More built in features. And still great house pets and great with kids. Also real chick magnets, which I wish I had known many years ago.
