"DIGNITY EARNED"

Post by Irishwhistler » Tue Feb 20, 2018 10:03 am

"DIGNITY EARNED"
DSC03348Resized_Fotor OLD GAL.jpg
I did this portrait of an older Labrador Retriever that belongs to a veterinarian friend of mine. T'was my objective to highlight the features that speak of her many years of loyal companionship and of the dignity that older dogs surely have earned. It seems to me that the connection we as bird hunters have with our dogs is generally more profound than the average human / K9 relationship. The deep bond we share with our dogs is certainly strengthened by the numerous memories made together in grand days we spend together with them whilst afield. A most special elegance comes with all the greying of their facial features and their sunken eyes that continually track us with focused loyalty. These changes serve to remind us that these magnificent animals are never with us long enough and that they seemingly live each moment of their all too short time for us.

Cheers Mates,
THE DOG WHISTLER

so true we share our lives with these dogs and its hard to let go. i had a small english setter who was not near the best dog iv ever had and i have better dogs now and ever day was like starting over with her .i will take the blame for that .but she did point a lot of birds for me but was a handful all her life.but i loved her and she and she loved me some may have gotten rid of her but i kept her till the day she died. we had the times of our lives

The gift to us within this portrait are the eyes. Those eyes convey the essence, the dignity, the dedication, within this dog. There is this aura of, "Remember when.....!"
