Will my pigeons return

Post by KahlessDg » Fri Mar 09, 2018 9:30 pm

Hi, I've had non flyer pigeon ever since last fall. I ended up with a mate for him by accident after I brought home a leftover pigeon from training session. They hatched two babies, before the mother pigeon got killed when she flew into my neighbor's dog pen. The papa pigeon raised the two babies by himself. So for my question, I took Papa pigeon out for training today, when I left my two young pigeons were sitting on the roof of my neighbor's house. They have been coming and going for about the last 6 weeks with no problem. When I got home they were gone. It has been dark for 2 hours and they still have not returned. Should I keep the hutch open overnight in case they do come back, or is it okay to shut pops since he can't fly away if a predator comes in?

They should return in the morning unless a hawk got them

They won't come back in the dark. Young birds are dumb sometimes they're gone for days.

They are either dead or alive, you'll know soon enough. I have both ferals and homer's. the ferals do exactly the same thing as homer's, just not as far! They will probably be back, after all, it's the only sure place to get food!

They ought to return. I had my entire coop stay out a night and half a day, after a hawk attack- that really sucked.

If they are alive, they will return. The delay may be that they have found an alternate food source....for now.

you never know with pigeons. I have had some come back 2 or 3 days after I released them, hanging with the ferals I suppose.

I've had birds gone for a month before returning. Very rare but it happens. Not just racers either. Lost a roller once when I was younger (before my bird dog days) who showed up on the loft roof after 3 weeks.

Made me think of Schrödinger’s cat. Glad they came back. Dave
