Spotting Scopes for Chukar

Post by isonychia » Fri Oct 19, 2018 12:55 pm

Can anyone see the value in having a spotting scope along on a chukar hunt aside from looking at other game just for fun? Like any way your going to maybe utilize it for success on chukar?

In the area I hunt the chukar are usually pretty vocal, so I have a general idea of what area to walk up / through. I would just see a spotting scope as another 5+ pounds of stuff I would be lugging up with me. I guess it would not hurt to have it in the car. That way when you heard them as you were gearing up you could check out where you thought they were calling from and see if you can get a visual on any. With that said, I would not carry one on a hunt.

I agree with Warrior, but a small pair of binocs might be useful especially for looking over country from the top of a ridge.

My spotting scopes are called English pointers. How about just turning the dogs loose and going hunting.

Haha. Well I like that comment about the dogs beeing spotting scopes. Good to hear they are vocal. Getting stoked for Thanksgiving week!

Your first chukar hunt? What state, area are you going to? Be careful if going alone. It is desolate in some areas and the terrain is steep. Good luck.
