National Championship

Post by Pedro » Mon Feb 18, 2019 10:34 am

The National Championships are ongoing at the Ames Plantation. Here's a link to brace by brace synopsis, if you click on the camera there is a daily album of dogs and action. Some of these dogs are absolute beasts. When we lived down there we normally rode a couple of times per year. Difficult to appreciate the heart, stamina, and intelligence of these dogs until you see them.

This is a unique trial in the All Age season as Ames is fairly tight course and you're asking dogs that have won on the prairies and open piney woods, to run a 3 hour race more typically associated with a shooting dog trial. If you ever get the chance, you should go. In the past one could also rent a horse from a wrangler, not sure if still the case.

Thanks for that link. I let my subscription to the American Field run out so I missed being able to read that. Thanks.

I have been there three times. If you love bird dogs the NC should be on your bucket list. There is no other trial like it and is really worth seeing.

Not usually. You normally have to buy the video. But looks like this time they are to come: "icons will be put on line when photos are ready for viewing and will be placed next to the release time of the brace."

There are photos posted each evening, in years past there have also been videos. I have seen no videos posted this year, hopefully there will be some.
