Re: Blowing the Stink Off
We got 3 inches of new snow yesterday then it warmed up above freezing through the night and today. Hoping the worst is past. It has been rough on the wildlife with a lot of ice and snow covering their food. Plenty of moisture in the ground and ponds is the good news.
Re: Blowing the Stink Off
This has been a very unusual winter here. I have only seen two or three snowflakes fall ! It hasn't rained very much either and the east winds we expect in the winter were almost totally absent . That caused my usual sport of shore fishing for cod to be very poor on the east coast of Scotland as the cod stayed out at sea instead of moving in to feed.
It has been nearly ten years since more than 1 foot of snow was on the ground in my area.

We’re supposed to get another 8 inches of snow here tonight. I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to run the dogs on wild birds before the nesting season closure.

Re: Blowing the Stink Off
4 days prior it was 6 below zero F, so things change in a hurry. We dodged a bullet yesterday as it rained all day with 30-40 mph winds. A few degrees colder and we would have had another major snow storm. The Woodcock will show up at any moment and the Snow geese will be moving through in force now.
