New Loft........

Post by OnTheFly7 » Mon Apr 08, 2019 11:26 am

They say you can’t have a bird dog without birds.

Can’t have birds without a loft.

I now have the loft!

Really a nice loft, only thing I see is it's to close to the trees for me.

Thank you for the nice replies.

As for the trees, the ones on the right of the loft are dead, I just need to drop them. There are a couple of trees about 15 feet in front of the avery. I did this intentionally. The front of the loft (where the avery is) faces south. The solid back to the north provides protection from the north winds in winter. While the southern exposure in the winter will warm things up. Then, in summer, the leaves on the trees will provide shade on the front of the loft, keeping it cooler.

Looking forward to getting birds in a few weeks.

Looks great. How easy is it to crate the birds ? Looks a bit precarious to get in and out the door with the floor batons to balance on. Me being at an elderly age and a weak back.

Poly, it looks to be very sturdy to me unless your age and back are not the only "parameters"?
Perhaps he has a step-stool or small ladder that he removes after having gained access to minimize predation?

Loft was elevated for two reasons; to reduce predation as mentioned and for leveling purposes as it is build on a hill.

I can get into it without any assistance, however, a if needed, a one step step stool would do the trick. Getting birds should not be too difficult, nor should up keep. When we move and I build another, I will take what I learned from this one and make a better one. But for now, this one should do the trick.
