New beginnings for me in more than one way. I have been waiting for this little guy for awhile, at one point I didn't think a new dog was in the cards. I was on a waiting list for sometime when I had to pull my deposit for some pretty scary health issues. Just before my 40th I was diagnosed with late stage lymphoma that looked like it had metastasized throughout my entire body. I had three biopsies done throughout the next month to target my chemotherapy treatment (lung, bone marrow and lymph node), fortunately the biopsies showed no sign of cancer and after a whole series of test to eliminate things, they found that I had some rare manifestations of an autoimmune disease. Armed with a whole lot of new perspective and in hopes of seeing my young daughter grow up and my wife a while longer. I enlisted the help of some really good doctors and have made some serious lifestyle changes to give myself the best possible chance at healing. It seems to be paying off. I'm down 55lbs and counting, exercising everyday, my labs and blood pressure have never been better, I just got the results from a lung capacity test, it went from 81% to 96% and my latest CT scan shows that all the concerning spots are shrinking in size. The chukar are in trouble!

The breeder was kind enough to put me back on the list of another upcoming litter and couldn't be happier with the pup I received. I have never had a dog let alone a pup with an off switch like him. He gets after it when it is play time and then it is straight to mellow when we want him to be, I love it. Looking forward to the road ahead like never before.

From the looks of the middle picture, it looks like the same breeder we just got our new pup from! Gonna be fun watching these little guys/gals grow up and chase birds.

Nice! Which litter did you pick from? I have had a few Setter pups through the years, my first from Northwoods, they have some great looking dogs and were really great to work with. Love to see some pics as they grow.

Ours was from Erin’s Prometheus x Carly Simon. Our first setter pup. Definitely agree that Northwoods has been great to work with.

I was originally on the waiting list for a pup from that pairing, the dam of my pup is out of a past breeding of those two. Bird dogs for sure! Good luck with the pup and enjoy.

To the O/p sounds like things are coming together. Positive thoughts coming your way.

Nice to see a couple pups coming up also in this thread. Hope you guy's keep us informed with their progress.

Great to hear. I went through some bad health issues as well. Multiple back surgeries staph infection in my spine, blood clots etc. I promised that if I got back on my feet I was getting a puppy. Mine is 6 months now and he gets me out many days when I’d otherwise just lay down. Like yours he is a true blessing. Hang in there. Enjoy.

Yes Sir! It may sound a little bit crazy, because I have cared for multiple dogs since I was a kid, but the week before I was to pick him up I had some serious anxiety. After being of the mindset that buying green bananas might end up being a waste of good fruit it’s hard to switch gears mentally, no matter how much improvement is going on. Luckily my wife said plainly “You are getting the "bleep" dog, you have been thinking about this pup for months!”

After reading posts here for 8 years I have found that there is only one thing we can all agree on, puppy breath does in fact cure all!

Shortly after I got my first two GSP puppies 20+ years ago I got prostate Cancer. Every thing went well and except for a reoccurance all has been good.
The lesson I learned from the dogs was that it is nearly impossible to feel down or depressed when you are running the dogs. They always think positive and they always make mr feel good.Good luck.......Cj

Sure doesn’t take long for them to start turning in to dogs! Really liking this guy.

Winston Churchill wrote that "nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." Not sure about that, thank goodness, but a negative biopsy is probably close. Plus a new pup!

God bless you and what a beautiful pup. I got my first setter 4 years ago and it is a special breed. I wish I had only ever had setters.

Congratulations on your recovery. My dog has been in SoCal NSTRA for 4 years now. She is what keeps me living. Getting out and training dogs and keeping active is the best thing there is. We ran in 8 trials this weekend and I semi reserved a new setter pup on a future breeding. Several older guys at our trials use Quads to run their dogs. One 85 yr old that came over from AZ is still walking with his, and I brought my quad in case my body gave in. Beating cancer at 77 and ready for a new pup. Would like to see you out at our trials when that pup gets trained.
