Hunting The Snow

Post by Irishwhistler » Sun Dec 08, 2019 4:20 am

Aye Mates,
Had a grand day afield with me gun dogs TRAD and MAC whilst hunting pheasants on the snow this morning. The New England air was quite crisp and the sky was clear blue. The reflection of strong sunlight off of the snow made for a bit of strain on the eyes but the exercise walking up birds was surely enjoyed by meself, me gunning Mates, and me retrievers.

At days end we had bagged six pheasants and retreated back to our clubhouse to clean birds and share some Irish cordials to cap the festivities.

Funny yesterday I am out with my dogs hunting by myself and I wonder "Are the other guys too soft,or do I just push it too hard?".

My buddy was telling me about going to deer hunt on the backside of a slough thats public land. He said no one ever goes back there its too far and too hard.
I replied I was back there yesterday.
He rolled his eyes and said yeah well you arent everybody.

Snow and pheasants they go together just fine.

4 Above with a 10 mph nwest wind but my nephew and I bagged our limit in 2 hours. His little English Lab enjoyed it as much as he did. Might be the best pheasant hunt kid has been on! His own dog retrieved all 3 of his birds. His first dog so he was pumped!

Obviously not needed in this quality of snow, but if snow is sticky and forms ice balls in feet, Musher's Choice is a very good product. Available through Amazon. Good pictures.
