Rats getting into pigeon trap

Post by OceanMon » Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:53 am

Hi there so I had a pigeon trap that was working quite well until rats got into it and killed the pigeons I trapped. I then moved to have quarter inch by quarter inch mesh installed all around the trap which then prevented or deterred birds from entering the trap. The doors on the trap are one of those flap styles that flap up. My question is how do I alter this trap so that birds are still enticed to go inside yet keeps rats out. Thanks so much for your help!

Free hanging is the only way I can think of. Need to use wire as rats would go up and down chain or rope.

Are we talking the trap on a loft or a trap to capture wild birds?

I don't know how much room you have to work with, but if you put the catch cage up on a table or box and then wrap and fasten 10 or 12 inch aluminum flashing around the edge of the table, that should keep the little buggers from climbing. Don't know how high they can jump though.

Yeah, it's a trap to catch wild birds.

Getting it on a platform off the ground seems like the best idea. Thanks!
