Mentoring…….

We do not have children and admittedly, I’m selfish.

Well, we have a neighbor boy who has shown a big interest in hunting/fishing. Neither of his parents are into the outdoors. When we go out of town, he feeds and takes care of my training pigeons.

So yesterday, we took him out to experience his first pheasant hunt (with Chukar and Quail).

We weren’t sure how he’d react, so the first bird or two, he hung back with my better half. About an hour into the hunt he was walking in on birds with me and then by himself! This brought me way more joy than I thought it would!

Appreciate where you are and give back!

You will create memories that may just mean as much or more to you, than to those you mentor!

A quick video of that day (this is our youngest who I’m working on getting ready for SH in the spring and UT in late summer/fall)…….

That's great you're giving an opportunity to someone who doesn't have a chance to do it with a family member!

This is incredible!

I'm not sure where you are from, but here in Minnesota they have "Apprentice Licenses" for hunting which are open to all ages of hunters and they can be an apprentice for 2 seasons. The only stipulation is they must be with a licensed hunter.

It sounds like you were hunting planted or game farm birds, but if your area has a program like that he could actually hunt wild birds too!

the apprentice license only allows you to buy a license to hunt without normally required gun or hunter safety training. all other rules still apply. It is twice in a lifetime. I really would rather my trainees have gun safety training.......Cj
