Well, I finally did it....

Post by RuttCrazed » Mon Mar 26, 2007 10:34 pm

After a lot of procrastination I finally signed up for my first NSTRA trial! I don't think my pup is ready yet, so I registered my 7 year old "hunting" shorthair and figured I would see what the fun was all about. The trial is on the 14th of April, and I have a little work to do with my dog, I'm sure she will be ready, I just hope I am!

I will let you all know how we do for our first time.

You should enjoy it. It's like going hunting and whoever find's the most bird's wins. Score is the tie breaker's.

It's going to be good to have you Rutt. This trial is also a first for me. It is my first go at being the trial Chairman. We are having it in a little different area of the State at fields we haven't used before. Hopefully we'll get some new faces. Already have at least one 8)

Well, I got the first one behind me. I drew the first brace of the day in the "B" field. I ended up going birdless, and my brace mate went 2/2. I was very pleased with my dog, she handled extremely well and got a 70 for obedience and a 70 for ground coverage. There were quite few experienced dogs that went birdless and my bracemate never found a bird behind me, so that made me feel better about my first trial experience. Despite not finding any birds first thing in the morning, I stuck around all day, learning from those who had done it before and BS'ing with everyone else, I had a great time! My brother came out to watch with his wife (over an hour drive for them!) and on the way home his wife told him that as soon as their pup gets a little older SHE wants to run it in some NSTRA trials (she doesn't even hunt), so apparently I wasn't the only one who was impressed with this group.

I am looking forward to the next trial and hope to soon have both my dogs running in it.

She was there, but I chained her out a loooong way from that crazy setter!

She may be ready to run in June.
