Kennel Question

Post by BrettBryan » Thu Mar 29, 2007 11:22 am

How many people have kennels with a small divider between(down) the runs? Say, for instance, cinder blocks stacked a couple high on the floor and then the fence goes up toward the roof. Or an actual curb poured down the run.
If so, what do you use? Concrete curb, cinder blocks, etc.
And how high is about the right height? 2 feet? or what height.
Thanks in advance for any reply's.

The purpose of such a design is so that the dogs don't run the fences playing with one another. Therefore, any height that a dog couldn't see over is fine, and any material that will block the view into the next kennel will work.

I've seen cinder blocks and sheet metal. You also want to prevent inter-fence mating. I've seen it happen.

I always liked the dogs running the fence getting exercise but I didn't like the males wetting through the fence contaminating the ajoining run. Stopping that is an important protection device for keeping desease from spreading through out the kennel.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Absolutely, my #1 hated thing about not having dividers. I wish I could afford them.

I did put an electric fence line verylow to the ground about 3 inches in from the fence for a dog that would dig out, but it inadvertantly stopped the peeing through the fence. Had to give him a log to pee on though to keep him off the house...

I have since modified it so that it doesn't do anything but stop digging... and the dogs cannot accidentaly step on it...

I've seen a sheet of PVC style plastic used too, so check the farm supply stores.

Oh, that's a good idea Steven.

I've never seen the sheet stuff.

I used cinder blocks, it works quite nicely and has held up well.

The down side was that it is a lot of work and was not cheep to do.

If you want some pic's let me know.

The panels are much easier to install and do not take up as much room. Easily replaced, no need to paint, looks better and much much cheaper than blocks.
