Speaking of butter milk

Post by Don » Wed Jul 04, 2007 11:20 pm

I love butter milk. The other night I went down the river and caught a mess of bass. I did half in egg and crumbled up corn flakes and the other half in flour with season salt and pepper in it. Usually do beer batter but didn't have any beer and you can't buy it here.

I'd bet that if I substituted butter milk for beer that would work great. Gonna try it next time and let you know how it come's out.

Matter of fact, I like Quail cut into strips and browned in fat then make milk gravy and cook the strip's in it and pour it over toast.

I was drinking some on the way home one time and the grandson, then about 4, wanted to try it. Told him he probably wouldn't like it but he insisted. He didn't think much of it and never asked again.

Where can't you buy beer? There are some towns here in Maine, like Houlton, where you can't buy any liquor on Sundays. I have done the marinating in the buttermilk, salt pepper, oldbay spice and garlic with fish but not tried it on the birds.

We have one store here in town and the last two people to run it don't sell beer or cigeratte's for religious reasons. Next closest beer, 35mi.
