I love Man's Best Friend". Yes, it was expensive, but the advantage is it will do so much and it makes record keeping so easy.

Ward,
I use Kennel up. They used to put an add on my truck fro a while too. I helped them exoand their data base to all breeds of dogs. It works well. I do all of my trial entries on it.

DO both of the programs also track the COI to show the inbreed statusbased on common ancestors?

Mans Best Friend Software I use it ...easy to use and the COI goes back 10 generations if you have all the info plugged in
you can get pretty detailed with it also...they let you down load a full version to try for 14 days it took me about 30 minutes to play around with it and purchase it.....

I've been toying with the idea of writing some k9 software... I can't get motivated enough yet. I don't know how big the market would be either.... None of my "great" ideas have turned into good $. i.e perfectpedigrees.com hahahaaa

I wrote my own. I used Access as a base and built from there. I can do 3 or 4 generation pedigrees, litter reports, title reports, puppy contracts, track expenses/income. It can not do COI's, but it suits my needs.

Did you write it in Visual Basic or did you use access forms....

I used VBA to enhance some of the forms and reports, but it is very basic, nothing fancy.
I also wrote a program for running Hunt Tests and Field Trials - no more hand writing, the program does everything. I have about 15 of them out in circulation.
Also wrote a program for NSTRA, works real well, I have about 8 of them out in circulation.

That sounds cool.... I thought about writing a Palm application that judges could use to keep score, but I didn't even start. I didn't think it would be accepted well.

probably not considering the weather that they sometimes have to judge in.

I also thought about streaming live broadcasts of trail events over the internet. That'd requre a phone line in the field though. My next thought was to have a website that could host major trial event scores. From the event, I could use a cell phone to dial into the server and through a series of steps, the scores would be updated. Folks on the web could access real time stats on the event. Thats do-able, but again. I'm tierd of putting effort into ideas that flop =)

GRANT(streaming live broadcasts of trail events)
Some day this will become a reality,or the trials will just fade away
or be so obscure that interest will be nill....
Try to find out from horseback observers how a dog did in CA on
3/6 and AZ on 3/10 and Saturday 3/17 in ILL {etc}
I got a call last nite that my girl made FC,but there will not be a confirmation for almost a month.....let alone a discription of trial.
THE PUBLIC WOULD BE FASINATED FOLLOWING DOG TRIALS,but it will never happen until we can somehow get them involved.

The live internet video stream wouldn't be hard at all. Having the technology onsite would be. If I did the cell phone thing. All I would need at the event would be a cell phone. As the scores come off the field, they'd show up on the website. Useful?
