Post by WiskeyJaR » Tue Nov 20, 2007 11:19 pm

can you have both in same coop? Maybe entry on ground for quail and entry at top for pigeons?

Have limted space for a coop..was hoping to combine them.

Yes, they live together fine. I often keep quail in my pigeon pens. I thought when I first did it that the pigeons might kill them but that is not true. Accually I think the pigeons are more scared of the quail. Should work just fine.

Depends on your pigeons. I've had them peck at the quail's head until it killed it...

I'll go with Switchgrass on this one. I've had pigeons keep pecking untill they peck all the feathers off the quails back.

You should be just fine Whiskey, I keep mine all together all the time. Sure I lose a few but not enough to worry about.

Maybe your pens are to small cause I have never had this and I have done it for years. Or maybe the quail was sick?

I have never seen pigeons peck the feathers of the quail, but if you have too many quail in a pen, the other quail will definitely peck the feathers off of the other quail.

Th eonly concern I would have is putting wild pigeons in with quail and spreading some disease around the coop. I would put raised homers in there though...

How big would you say the coop need to be? Would a 8x8 floor be big enough?

What the heck is that thing? Looks like a cross between a road runner and a pea cock!

You wouldn't need much tobasco though, I know a heck of a lot of cajuns and koonasses that could make a darn fine gumbo out of it HA! CR

It is a Hoatzin. They are from south america and the amazon. It is a real bird believe it or not. It eat only leaves and has a gut like a cow. Also when the birds are babies they have claws at the end of their wings. This allows them to jump from a nest when scared and climb back up the tree after. Weird bird for sure.
