dog box tie down
dog box tie down
merry christmas everyone,
i just got one of those fancy diamond plate, aluminum dog boxes for my truck and was wondering... since it doesnt have a bottom on it i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to keep that thing on the bed. i can see where i could hit a bump and get my dogs foot or tail smashed on the box's way down. i can rig up a ratchet strap that goes behind my truck tool box but i was hoping i could avoid that since it would be end up being a pain because after i crank the strap down it would pull the box all the way up to my toolbox making the top catch on the dogbox making it hard to open but it would however keep the box on the bed. should i just put a floor in the thing?

For tie downs I like to buy the flat top U-bolts (I don't know what they're really called) and (2) small springs for each.
Drill (two holes) through pickup bed, put the U-bolt in from top, slide (1) spring onto each protruding leg from underneath bed, then put on nuts. You may wish to add some washers. Now the U-bolt will pull down flat against the bed on the top side and you can pull it up against the springs when you want to use it.
I always put these in the recessed channels so that when I want to slide something in the bed they won't interfere.

I don't have a floor in mine and built it that way on purpose. I fill mine with straw ( in winter) or if I want to clean it I just turn it up and that is it. I tie mine down with ratchet straps.

Thanks, ya I lived there for about 3 years. I used to be a waiter at the shoneys restraunt where you would get off I-4 to goto winterhaven then got a job at Bears Matal in Bartow (I am a Jorneyman toolmaker). Small world huh.
