Shootin dog WIN!

Post by Wildweeds » Mon Oct 13, 2008 9:36 pm

My FC has been on the semi retired circut the past couple of seasons.I've only run him in championships, this fall I decided to support my pro in these lean times and the dog proved he still has it.Four trials and three placements 2 open limited gundogs and this past weekend he fell on bad luck in the championship stake,He set the bar in the first brace, but was birdless.............sort of.He set the bar so high and his stringmate who also went birdless almost matched it.When the placements came ..................Withheld, and 2nd thru 4th handed out.The judge told the handler that the dog that ran the first brace was the best dog of the stake. He won the companion shooting dog stake yesterday.

He's been battered by some of the worst luck in the championship stakes he's run in.He's been interfered with from other handlers scouts twice now, flat out brainfarted himself once,His amateur handler brainfarted once  Had his handlers scouts muff it up a couple times.Maybe a NFC this spring is in the cards.

35 pounds of geter done consistantly, truly my "once in a lifetime" performer, his placements to run ratio is very high. His last full season netted 5 wins and 8 placements in all, in 10 trials.

Sounds like a heck of a dog. Wonder what breed he is and where he runs and what stakes? Sounds like you have bee braced with some real dolts. Sure hope your luck turns around.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

A setter, has run in california, nevada, wahington, was #1 gundog in 2005 at the tender age of 3I myself don't really care to handle him with an audience,I've done it exactly twice and placed him once and muffed it up once,it wasn't his fault just mine.

Congratulations! I'm gonna go out on a limb and ask if RJ is your Pro? I think I recently saw a dog named FC Tomoka's Tricky Magic garner the Open Shooting dog win at the BCABPC Chukar Championship held Oct 11 and the Fall Trial
11-12 Oct at Merritt, B.C. ..........which would make you Ernie Weed??? That was a very nice win, just a dog shy of a 4 pt major and all other placements were witheld (presumably for lack of bird work)
Welcome to the forum Ernie. We wish you many more successes and a shot at that NFC you dream of!

Oh...now you need to post pictures ...we LIVE for Pictures

Helen,

you are correct.,Doug it was Canadian chukar CH.

A pic from my brainfart amateur handling.............I took him quailhunting the night before I ran him in National amateur which is where this pic came from on a find of a passell of pheasant roosters. He was perfect the next day and had a nice solid find and some run but I think.......................I overhunted him the night before because he ............petered out before the end.Having anxiety on my part didn't help him one bit either,I like to keep my mouth zipped shut when hunting and have been told both times I've run the dog that I need to communicate more.I disagree however because if the dog's out front and doing a fine job...........Why holler at him?

WOW!!!! what a handsome boy...and looks to be a worthy bird dog too   He is a stunning dog Ernie, thanks for sharing. I can sure see how he came by the "magic" part of his name. He is breathtaking in these pics.

Helen,

His name was picked using sire, grandsire and a great grandsire.Imagine my surprise when I looked back in a freinds old pointing dog journal and found this picture of his great grandsire, even though that far back the blood is supposed to be nothing more than paper I see an awfully familiar pointing style.

Image

His daddy was named Magic Mike and this picture was taken in his old age of 12,I have much better ones of him at 6 but they are on paper. He was retired at this point because of hearing issues,I lost him hunting and never did find him that day ,he found the truck while I looked frantically over 2 sections for him.I was thouroughly ticked when I returned to the truck and he was napping in the shade.

Image

I don't have a picture of Tricky "bleep" but that was another grandsire in the pedigree and I thought it was a funny catchy name..Magic mike a product of linebreeding that worked well in an almost complete outcross. That netted a 35 pound soaking wet rocket,R.J. calls him "Mighty Mouse"......He may be small but he is mighty.Bonnie Hidalgo has a real dandy photo of him I heard from the gundog CH in Reno pointing some native quail that were either ridden up or bumped by dogs all week. The story I got was he was the only dog to get them stuck and then he brainfarted on the shot, went lateral and started hunting again which ended his bid.
