Coming Around

Post by KY Grouse Hunter » Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:00 am

Just wanted to brag a little on a dog that deserved it. This is Chip and he is two year old and is seasoning quite nicely. We bred his father before he got too old and the no pups were produced. We tried again with the same female and no pups again... that was until one mourning we walked out and two pups were nestled comfortably by their mother (the mother never showed any sign of pregnancy). We kept the male pup and the owner of the female kept the other female pup. To this little puppys' advantage and disadvantage, he has hunted behind his father since his first step in the woods and when the father is in the woods, no other dog gets the chance to find birds... he is the best dog I have ever hunted behind. But now this 2 year old setter is making his own tracts in the grouse cover and has been for about a year now, venturing off from his wise old dad and finding his own birds and making his 12 year old Setter mentor play catch up. But all in all, the future is bright, and the dog is beautiful. Live long and prosper.
