New Dual Champion!!!

Post by Karen » Fri Dec 12, 2008 10:34 am

I'M ON CLOUD 9!!!

FC Britt Haven's Blaze of Glory finished his show champion title today (pending AKC approval) to be the newest dual champion!!

Blaze is Ch. Chilcote's Texas Ranger x Britt Haven's Yiik Trend.

This year has really been a whirlwind! Blaze, having never run a puppy or derby stake, finished his field champion title in 15 trials, winning two 31 dog, horseback OGD stakes and taking 2nd in a 33 dog OGD stake, all amateur handled by John Perry. He had a good showing at the gun dog nationals, and has requalified for 2009 NGDC already!

The day the fall FT season ended, Jeff Currier took Blaze home with him so Gina could start showing him. That was 5 weeks ago, and Blaze has been in the ribbons nearly every single time Gina showed him since.

So many people to thank!!!

First Doc Berlet, Blaze's breeder, who told me to take the best puppy from the litter...not the best bitch, and has been a constant source of support in our endeavors.

John and Joanne Perry, who ran and scouted Blaze in the field for me when I hurt myself last year and wasn't able to compete myself.

Pete DeAngelis of Longview Kennels, whose expert field training made earning Blaze's FC possible.

Gina Currier, who tolerated me never giving her adequate time to show Blaze, and didn't freak when I handed him over recently shaven and WAY too skinny, and still managed to finish him in short order.

Congrats on the title. He is a nice looking dog. Like the pic in the field. I think he must have shown that dogs in field condition is what can and does win on the bench. I took my dogs from the field to the shows many times. Thats the way it should be.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

We showed one of our "field dogs" last weekend, and she won all three days. Since I am a rotten handler, I had someone else show her for me. On the last day we decided to get a photo, and the handler made it a point to tell the judge....
"This is a field dog!" And she was very proud of that. The judge replied....well, it doesn't matter. I'm sure she really didn't have too much of a clue anyways.

I really didn't think much about it, handlers are always surprised when they win with a "field dog". But then I got to thinking about it... dang it, they should all be "field dogs"! There shouldn't be an us and a them, there shouldn't be field dogs and show dogs.......

Every sporting dog who walks into the show ring should be capable of being a field dog, and every field dog should be capable of being a show dog! I know I'm dreaming, but in my perfect world it would be so.

I've always been very proud when one of my guys whoops the butt off them Show Dogs...... and when they also go out and prove themselves in the field, it just makes me smile more!

Here's to all of the DC's out there, and to their breeders and owners!

Here's Blaze's picture when he finished. Can you tell Gina is happy to add another dual to her list of dogs finished? :D

I am no Brittany person but even I can appreciate a couple of big wins like that, beating thirty dogs is always impressive. Nice job! Have fun Celebrating.

Wow! That doesn't happen very often . And not just a Junior hunter but an F.C. !!! The picture in the bush is one of my favourites. I copied it and have it on my desk.
