I have been digging around on the forum for some info and figured I might as well join. I just got my second English Pointer. Our first was rescued as a stray in AL and has never really been very birdy. Actually, she was a wreck, but she has aged into a nice house dog. Last week we just adopted a 2 year old EP from our local shelter. He is big, strong loyal and points every sparrow, wren or squirrel in the yard. I am still trying to find more info on him. He was turned into the shelter - unaltered - by people who said they intended to breed him, but that he escaped too often and had some inconsistent bowels. Somebody gave up a great dog!
I am married to one of the grand-daughters of Dr. Alvin Nitchman, so there is a lot of bird dog success in our (read her) family. Her dad works a few dogs on Doc's old place in AL and takes them to some field trials around the area as well. So, I have been exposed a little to working dogs, but have a lot of learning to do.
That's enough of an introduction, now here is a picture of Fletcher (taken on his first day home):

Thanks. I hadn't seen that SI link before. Doc bred, trained and ran many champions, including National Open Shooting Dog Champion, Pantalglieze. He was elected to the Field Trial Hall of Fame in 1980 and his Pork Roll also shares that honor. Here is a partial list of some of his other dogs, http://www.englishsetterclub.com/DocNitchman.htmlpiper338 wrote:Congrats on the adoption.

Welcome. Your Fletcher looks a lot like a pointer I fostered for our local shelter that eventually went on to get a couple legs to his JH title and now works on a hunt farm chasing pheasant and quail around. Nice looking pup!
