Two tiny brags

I rarely post anything here, but I am very proud of my little V girl, Cali! As background - Cali is my first bird dog, and my husband and I have been muddling through her training ourselves, learning through trial and error. She's far from perfect, but we're having fun.

She ran in a Gordon Setter HT on the 19th and 20th, earning back-to-back SH legs, with perfect 10s on her retrieves for both days! She had multiple finds on both days and some very pretty honors. This puts her at 3 out of 4 SH legs. She was worked hard that weekend, running multiple braces as a bye dog both days and being used as the pointing dog for honors. She never lost her drive and worked hard all weekend.

This past weekend, we entered the Vizsla Club of Metro Atlanta's FT (since my club was hosting, I felt like I should put in an entry), so I entered my totally amateur trained, obedience titled, hunt test dog in OGD...Crazy, I know. This was our first time in a trial and everyone helped us out. I was thrilled when we made it around clean, with several finds and a very nice run. While I was a ball of nerves for the whole 30 minutes, Cali was having a blast and was totally steady for every find. She made it to callbacks, and through a series of really unfortunate events( almost entirely my fault), the bird ended up flying straight at her face, causing her to break and knocking us out of contention. However- to make it around the course clean, in a tough field and make it to callbacks on our first try made my day!

For a little, 20 month old, amateur trained/handled red dog, I'm pretty proud.

Congrats - that is no minor accomplishment! Training her yourself and getting her steady to wing and shot is a big deal. Enjoy the ride - the red dogs are a lot of fun.
