Little brag on my Zero

Post by stlgsp » Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:29 pm

Had to throw in a little brag for my boy Zero after a good weekend in Kentucky. On Friday Zero placed first in Amateur Gun Dog at the WCGL walking field trial. At the KPBA walking trial on Saturday he placed first in Amateur Limited and followed it up with a second in Amateur Gun Dog on Sunday. Will have to go back and check but pretty sure he picked up another 5 points this weekend for a total of 8 points towards his AFC. Zero is my first try in the broke dog stakes and we’ve been learning together, have to admit I make more mistakes than he does….. Don’t think he’s doing too bad for a pup I couldn’t sell two years ago for $400 and even tried to give him away
Have to throw out a huge thanks to Rick Hopkins at Walnut Hill for taming the beast and putting a SH title on Zero last year!

Sometimes it just takes a couple of field trials for everyone else to know what you have.

Way to go Peggy. My buddy who has Zero's sister is thrilled with her as a hunting dog. I got to see her this past summer - she's a real looker.

Traveled down to the hills of TN this weekend to the ETPDA field trial where Zero placed first in ALGD to pick up his final two points towards his AFC. Pending AKC approval he is now AFC Hot Shot's Auf Ziel SH! A huge thanks to everyone that has helped us out and gave us encouragement along the way! Now time to regroup and see what our next adventure will be :D

I've kept in contact with all of the owners, some more than others. All but one are in hunting homes and that one has done some Jr Showmanship. Two are with local friends that I see often, both think theirs are the best GSP's they've ever owned :D Only those I have are being trialed or hunt tested but as long as they're in good homes that's what matters most. I think you saw Tank while he was with Rick, he'll be trialed this fall and Zero will be working towards his FC as well.
One that I took back (wrong dog in the wrong home) is looking for the right family/hunting home. Awesome hunter, awesome nose, high energy, super friendly. He'll be running towards his SH.
All have excellent temperaments, great noses and a ton of drive. If I do say so myself, it was a nice breeding, Gunner did good. Thanks for letting me use him.

I think it went together well. Gunner, like every dog, had his good and bad points. On the good side, he had the best nose that I've ever seen on any dog and tons of drive. On the downside, he'd get crazy at trials and lose his cool.

There has never been a dog with a better personality, though. He loved everyone and everything. Well, except for skunks. He really didn't like skunks.

I miss him every day and I'm glad that his get are doing well.

Greg J.
