OK, so I have been waiting a long time for this (over a year).

Finally yesterday we brought home Hellie De L'Escarbot- "Ellie".

Family is pretty excited but Dad is beside himself

Ellie is doing awesome! Beyond my expectations thats for sure.

She is now 9 months old. I worked with her this summer exposing her first to some live quail at 3 months old then did some pigeon/launcher work to intro her to the gun etc. Ran her on some loose quail around 6 months old that she did great pointing and retrieving after shot. Ran her also on some wild woodcock and grouse before the season opened.

Now with the season open I am one happy daddy. We have been fortunate enough to have had an AWESOME woodcock recruitment year. Grouse numbers are down but woodcock numbers are way up. You folks in the south be ready for a really good migration.

Anyway, in three trips north we have had 545 flushes! Obviously she wasn't in on all these but with that kind of bird contact the dog is getting it!! She was pointing and holding, but as a young pup she would crowd at times and flush. Sometimes she would blow through them but rarely. She has a good nose and is learning the ropes and how to use it. This last trip up on the last day she put it all together and really started pointed birds well as well as finding and retrieving dead birds.

At home she is a sweetheart that the whole family has fallen in love with.... Definately shes daddy's girl

That is a lot of birds you have been able to find, especially in just her first year. Well done!

Side note, how does her shedding compare to other dogs you have had?

Thanks! Her shedding is a lot less than other dogs I have had, bassett hounds, labs, Chihuahua, golden. I brush her every once in a while and it helps.

Went out last night before the pheasant opener and she found 4 birds... 1 bumped, one ran and she tracked till it flushed, and two points. First time on Chinese chickens. Back north next weekend for more grouse and woodcock!
