Field Trial Rankings - South Africa
HI All,
I would like to post a small brag as a breeder, and a big brag on behalf of some good friends and owners
In South Africa, we have 8 pointing dog trials a year, all on wild birds. At the end of the trial season, the Dog of the Year is named for the HPR (continental) Trials (retrieving) and the British Breed (pointer/setter) Trials (non-retrieving), based on the points earned in these trials.
The HPR Dog of the Year is Rooies Dorland's GSP bitch "Eva" (Bhulisa Stormberg)! Eva earned her points in 6 trials and 8 stakes in both HPR and British Breed trials to earn the most points and #1 spot. On top of this, she is a young dog and just starting her trial career!
Arnold Slabbert's GSP bitch "KC" (Bhulisa Lemm) is the # 3 ranked HPR dog!
Congratulations to both of these owners, who are not only talented trainers/handlers, but who also put the miles in training, traveling and conditioning their dogs to get the most out of them!
Trudi
And yes, these dogs are super hunting dogs, not "just" trial dogs!!

If you never have been to trial in S.Africa, it is a must. It is all done on foot and the handler must be in good shape. You walk for several hours behind the dogs. You follow with your dog and when it comes to his turn the first two are picked up and then you put your dog down and so it goes with only a break for lunch. It is all on wild birds and these dogs do a wonderful job. They are very broke and to get points in the shorthairs they must complete a retrieve from water to hand and must never drop the bird in the process.
