I know I am outsider here but.......
SOme of you that know me know that I have been training for a German test called a VGP.
Just got back from our VGP down in Wapello, Iowa. We tested with the Heartland VDD . Man, what a great group of guys and some very very nice dogs! We had a great time and are looking forward to a much deserved break from training!
I am not going to talk about anyone elses scores as that is up to them to do. But in my group 4 dogs started the test and unfortunately we lost a dog on the blood track right off the bat. To their credit they have a great dog, but just had a bad start to their overnight track.
Another really nice guy with a great dog had a couple recalls on the blood, but got it done!
I give props to those of you that are willing to try the overnight tracks. I personally think it take a big set to take that risk!
So, for us it was a phenomenal weekend. It really didnt feel like it at time though. I had a couple "Conversations" with Max about his behavior. Only to discover later that there was no need.
The blood track was great. It was the first track I had done with no cloths pins. I got into a panic a couple of times but just downed my dog and calmed down. Max got of track twice and I couldnt figure out what the trouble was. I downed him and found my last blood(cotton ball) and eyeballed where it was going. It was a 90 degree turn that was throwing my speed tracker off. But this is why it is a team exercise. I directed him back to the track and on we went to the end.
The search without a duck he rocked on and the search behind duck was crazy! is search was 20 plus minutes! He produced 2 ducks. One that was set out 30 minutes before and had taken to the land and went into the woods.
That is just a couple of highlights.
His score was 303 Prize I with a 4H in Nose! It was the highest score of weekend! :multi: :multi:
I am very proud of him. He is a work horse and always gives me his all. I couldnt ask for a better dog.
I would like to thank the judges, they were a great bunch of guys and really easy to talk to. Also like to thank the VDD for putting on such a well organized test. I will no longer hold your breed choice against you guys!
Here are some pictures.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Re: I know I am outsider here but.......
Thank you all very much. It was tough, tougher the I thought. I am very glad that the next one will not be for another 3 years!
Coop, he is a nice boy. The judges all commented on how they can clearly see that there is a strong bond between us. He works very hard for me. I really really believe that he is my once in a life time dog!
Ezzy, I just mean that because I dont play the same games that most do on here. Thats all.

I have said it before, doing this stuff take a villiage to get it done. It doesnt matter how little someone thinks they helped, it all adds up and is appreciated!
