Training paid off in real world pheasant hunt

Post by Retiredbirddogman » Wed Dec 05, 2012 9:26 pm

My 2 year old GSP made me proud today. I had her steady to wing , shot, kill going into Iowa Pheasant season. Decided to let her break on "kill" to retrieve more wounded birds. Today, Belle, went on point in some fairly thin yellow grass. I moved in and a hen got up - she stood to the flush, another hen got up - she stood to the second flush, then a rooster got up, she stood through the shot and then retrieved the bird to hand. So much fun seeing that training come to fruition on wild birds.
Thanks for listening.
