Pointing Dog Cover

Post by pointer » Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:53 pm

This is not the type of cover dog pointer that we all typically think of. My English Pointer "Mojo" has been featured in several paintings by accomplished artist Lou Pasqua. Lou is an exceptional artist of sporting dogs and has had several covers of magazines in the past.

Today I received a 24x36 limited addition print of the painting "Southern Traditions" from Lou along with a signed copy of the Jan/Feb 2013 addition of the Pointing Dog Journal. The painting was selected as the cover for the upcoming addition of the magazine. The painting shows two pointers but "Moe" is actually used twice in different positions.

The print has also been used in an advertisement in Covey Rise Magazine.
I am guessing that since "Moe" is somewhat of a celebrity, he will be wanting better working conditions other than the snow and cold we were working in this weekend.

I have shown a copy of Lou's painting featuring "Moe" which was used for the cover and displayed on Lou's website. I am very grateful that Lou finds my pointers to be worthy of his talents.

That live photo would make a nice painting as well.

Very cool and very nice looking pointer.
That is the kind of point I like to see. That gives direction, intensity, and class.
He captured your boy near as good as life.
Congrats.

Thanks to all for your very nice comments.

It is very special to have your dog in print, but it is even more special when the painting is done by a world class artist. I am extremely fortunate to have meet Lou and also fortunate that he appreciates the looks of my dogs.

I purchased this print from Lou when I saw it on a cover years ago. I thought he got the setters "right"...print looks better than this jpg.

I have the same print framed as well and most all of the covers he has had over the years. Lou is incredible with any of the breeds that he paints. There is something in his work that makes the dog jump out of his work. I think it is his ability to capture the look and intensity in the eyes and the head, but I am certainly not an art expert. I simply know that his work is incredible to see and having your dog featured is just icing on the cake.

It's in the "eyes"! The look in Moe's eyes in the photo just screams with intensity, and it looks like Lou caught it in the painting! When you look at the painting and the photo, both, everything seems to be drawn to the dogs eyes! That is really cool!~ Thanks for sharing! 8) He sure does have a gift and that sure is a great looking pointer!

Man, you've got a beautiful Pointer there. Any more photos of him? Got a pedigree of him online?

Thank you. He is a very nice dog both in the field and also around the kennels. A very sweet and soft dog, but all go in the field and on birds. Here a few more pictures of him. The one is actually the field photo that Lou Pasqua took and used for the cover painting. If not, it looks very close to the painting.

His breeding is all Elhew. He is sired by Ch. Elhew Explore and his dam is Elhew Sea Coral. I have attached his pedigree at

If the link does not work, you can look at the Pedigree for Onpoint Elhew Mojo under perfect pedigrees.
