Training Progressing Nicely

Post by CTPaul » Mon Aug 11, 2014 6:21 am

So after a bunch of months of very gradual training my young setter seems to have caught on. He's no longer bumping birds, stops on first scent and is hunting with me very well. I started with the Hickox Program but realized that the dog didn't respond well to pressure so I moved over to the PS/PF method before getting too far. The move took a little bit of time for the dog to catch on but he has responded very well. I'm now through the perfect start and moving on to the perfect finish with whoa on birds.

Certainly not exciting for you guys who do this all the time but for a guy who only had one bird dog (very poorly trained) I'm ecstatic.

Here's a photo from the weekend. Tough scenting conditions but still did well.
