Honey Run Show and Field brag
This past weekend HHH Jam On The Brakes (a CH Honey Run's Shifting Gears son) went Best of Winners out of the BBE class at the Saturday New England Sporting Dog specialty for 2 points and then on Sunday at the Nutmeg supported Entry show, he went WD and getting his Second major, he also won the Best BBE GSP. This pup is only 11 months old competing against older dogs in the BBE classes. He is sitting at 10 points and both majors, he is getting close. Oh, he is also solid liver!

His Daddy, "Kobe", passed his second leg of Senior Hunter on Saturday with top scores. Kobe needs just 2 more SH legs and then we are on to Masters.

So when you get scored high, is what makes the akc judges, let you win? All the AKC Judges I know, or run in front of, have always had a pass or fail, judgement, nothing at all to do with scores??? Scores are not listed in any of the junior, senior, or master level tests, that I participated in. Just curious if I havent been getting a fair shake.

"tailcrackin" I'm not sure what your question is, but the judges always give a score. You may not see the score card, but it is what they use to determine the pass or fail judgement in a HT. There is no winner, just pass or fail in the HT's "JH" thru "MH" ..."pear"

Jonsey,
When a dog gets all 9's and 10's from both judges, it shows to most people that the dog did an excellent job that day.
Everyone that runs in a hunt test gets a score. There is also a set of "control sheets" at the secretaries desk that lists all the score for each dog in each catagory. All you have to do is ask for your score if they do not automatically give it to you.
The Master/Senior levels are judged to a written standard that all dogs have to perform to to pass. Each judge scores each dog on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 as the highest. The dog must get an average of 7 in 6 categories with no score less than a 5 to pass. 1) Hunting 2) Bird Finding 3) Pointing 4) Trainability 5) Retrieving and 6) Honoring. So when you get scored high, is what makes the akc judges, let you win? Ok, I never worried about the score, always had the dog ready for the test, and when it done the job required, or expected, for the level, it passed. All judges that I have run under, at all three levels, said that the score doesnt matter, because "as long as the dog, does the job that is expected to do at the level its at, it will pass, does not do whats expected, will not pass." So I guess, if the dog doesnt do the job like it is expected to, then it wont get scored highly, or actually pass. Right?

Jonsey,
Obviously you know how the system works, so you don't need any explanations.
But is sure is nice when the judges reward great dog work with high scores. The scores reflect just how well the dog did or didn't do and should serve as a indicator as to how well or how not so well your dog did.
Again, 9's and 10's on a Master or Senior dog indicates a dog that his job not only well, but damm good. Some people do not pay any attention to scores, but a lot of people do as it indicates the level at which the dog performs at.
