how far do you hunt from your truck

how many miles will you walk generally and at most? what kind of birds are you after?

Sometimes 3-5 miles one way. On average about 2 miles. Quail, Chukar, and Grouse are the norm. One mile of chukar hunting is plenty...trust me.

I average about 8 miles a trip this time of year so probably am hunting 2 to 3 miles from the vehicle most of the day. That is for chukar

I live in ND so a lot of big fields. Generally for Pheasant 1 mile away at most. Sharptails I hunt 1-3 miles away depending on which side of the state I am. In a typical day I put 5 to 8 miles on.

here in utah there are a lot of people that would give you a funny look if you asked them how far they hunt from a truck. Road hunting is a problem out here in my opinion.

as for me, I hunt alot of blue grouse so I am at 10,000 feet and 5-10 miles away from my truck.

UP until my computer crashed a couple of weeks ago, I could have told you exactly. But, I'd say that my average hunt is around 3-4 miles round trip.

Living in the Midwest it is hard to get too far from your vehicle at any given time. I typically hunt 1/4 to entire sections of land and so at most get a mile from the truck, but over the course of the day we will put on 10-15 miles and the dogs well i'd hate to guess. The good thing is I have never heard them complain.

Out here where I live in the Oklahoma panhandle we hunt sections of CRP for pheasant so anywhere from a 1/2 mile to a mile for those birds and when I hunt quail anywhere from 3-5 miles.

Never bothered to check, just as far as need be. These two pics are from where I parked yesterday morning and we hunted as far as you can see in them which is about three or four miles in the first pic and about two or so in the second.

Tommyboy it's a long way from Texhoma to where these pics were at and trust me the ground aint nothing the same. There a few areas that look like it from a distance for sure like Pastita pasture on Beaver but up close the similaritys end real quick. That one great thing about our state, travel a few hours and your into a completely different ecoregion.

here in ks i only go about a 1-2 miles away from the truck but in a whole probably between 5-10 miles a day depending on where i hunt and my dogs will put on an average 2 -3 miles a field and sometimes alot more

I never really know how far unless I get right into birds. No telling how far you go when you get of the twitch roads grouse hunting. Some days I am close usually a few hundred yards Later in the season, I will be gone for the day in one area or moving around and getting off the beaten path some, maybe an hours walk or sometimes when lazy or the ankle is hurting I will beat up the truck a bit to move deeper on some not so good twitch roads. But over all I usually hunt for a few hours in a piece sometimes that can be just a mile away at its furthest point. Depends what is over the next ridge or across the next bog.
