Went out Sunday with a member of the Utah forum to try and find some birds and scout out some new areas. After trying a few places we finally got on some Chuckar.
The hunt was capped off with a sandwich and some home-brewed beer, as we watched the sun drift over the mountains.

A beautiful young German Shorthair with a limit of birds

And of course Gur with the days spoils
And one more thing...what’s all this talk about Chuckar holding for a pointer? I believe you boys are telling tall-tails.

These birds were as twitchy as a cat on a hot tin roof! I never even saw the first covey; they flushed on the opposite side of the ridge. When we finally caught up we were able to find two singles who flushed 30 yards out. We never found the rest of ‘em.
The next covey was about 300 feet from the truck. The dogs were going crazy, but I figured “couldn’t be birds, too close to the truck and we had been talking and going on for awhile during lunch.” Then I saw it: about 20 birds walking in the grass ahead of us. We were able to buckle down and take two birds from the covey. However, we could never catch up to the main covey.
We flushed one more single (that was pointed for a split second.) I got about half a sentence out before it flushed, “Gur is getting birdy up.....”
Running little (insert expletive word here)!

Always,
CJ
