steady in the blind

Post by labman21 » Mon Dec 21, 2009 10:14 pm

I have a situational question. Someone is duck hunting, they have a young and anxious dog, they may have trouble keeping the dog still. Would tying the dog off to something giving them limited room to move help them become a more steady focused dog in the future or is that just some weird thought I had? Please give feedback, and please don't be too harsh if it sounded stupid to you.

Definitely not a stupid idea, one of the guys that I duckhunt with still does that with his young lab. Before you ever go out to the field though I would make sure to have worked on your dog staying in/on a spot for a reasonable amount of time. That way the dog isn't learning while hunting as much. But it's up to you as to how much moving, and whining is acceptable while you're hunting and you have to enforce that.

i will agree it is definitley not a bad idea to tie the dog off. my lab still gets very excited and can sometimes be a handful in the blind.
if u can't do it with a dog it aint worth doin

huntin dogs are like potato chips you can't have just one.
