Here is how we spent the last 10 days

Post by Georgia Boy » Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:23 pm

Spent my vacation in NC hunting our DD's and Jagds with my good friends.

Morning small game hunt

Father daughter day.

Hooked on Quack

Another dose

Evening of predators and varmints

Ready for battle.

Action shot, Dachs (DD) Pascha (Jagd Terrier). They made an awesome team.

Chris with a nice boar, aka "Ghost Pig". This particular area seems to produce hogs of this color and they are super aggressive. When he saw the dogs he charged from about 50 yards and Dachs met him head on and got steam rolled into a big mess of vines. The boar was thrashing him with his head and trying to stomp him while he was trying to get untangled and to his feet. Thats when Pascha sailed into him, got thrown in the air and got run over too. They were both right back on him, Dachs had him by the ear and Pascha by the nose. Before we could get there he managed to break free and put me up a tree but the dogs were right behind him. Dachs caught him by one ear and Pascha got his the other ear. They had him anchored and we were able to get there to finish things up. It was action packed for sure, those Jagds are 80 lb dogs in a 20 lb body. Image

Now that is a mixed bag!

As a former jagd owner I will say they don't have an equal anywhere near their size.

I'm almost afraid to ask....but, I have hunted behind DD's before but i am ashamed to admit I don't know what kind of dog a jagd is. can you enlighten me....I thought I'd seen most types of bird, rabbit and coon dogs before but it appears I haven't.

People have to see it to believe it but when properly trained they are used below ground for coon, fox and badger as well as above ground on boar, bear and lions. They are good blood trackers and retrieve from land and water. I have never seen any that point but they are useful flushers. Here is my friends web page http://www.drahthaarsandjagds.com

Those Jagds look like a tasmanian devil! They just have that look of "ok, give me something to chase, tree or kill boss".

That top picture, the squirrel on the right is that a grey or a grey/fox cross? It's a biggin for sure!
