Alright, we called it a day. It was hotter, greener, less wendy and more wet than it was supposed to be. I did my research, talked to the area manager and had my maps with me, but the maps said the trees that bordered the parking area of our first starting point was not very thick. The map was wrong! After about sixteen years of treading through thickets and trees (ugh!), we made it to a clearing and made a long cast until we flanked a dove plot and headed back for the pickup. About a half mile from the pickup we were walking between two rows of crops, a good 15 yards apart, when Moxy cut right in front of me and locked up, not 10 yards away. It was a point, but it was soft - probably from the poor condition - so I called Cinna in to verify. I actually was pretty confident it was a rabbit or something. Cinna came in and locked up, too, but just as soft as Moxy. After just a moment a bird came up. Then several more, then a lot more. I would say 12 birds on the low end, but probably more like 15. I was so intent on watching the dogs and how they handled their first wild bird encounter that I TOTALLY forgot to mark down the singles. Ha! So, we a puddered around for a minute or two then headed on to the pickup. A couple hundred yards down the way Moxy picked up a single and Cinna came in and backed her naturally. I was prett proud of that little Setter. She didn't look like she was backing - all soft and flagging - but she wouldn't move an inch.

Anyhow, here's a photo of Moxy and Cinna on that single.

It looks as though a good time was had. Neat to know they are transitioning to wild birds sucessfully.
