Grousin' again.

Post by 12 Volt Man » Wed Sep 13, 2006 10:34 pm

Headed out with Addict again today to make up for getting skunked on the opener.

We had a great day trip. Three dogs along. Cowboy, Cooper, and Jinx.

We parked the truck and headed through some very thick cover. We hiked over several ridges and what was probably a couple of miles. We were in some great looking grouse country. It was early in the afternoon and pretty hot. We each had two bottles of water for us and the dogs. After not finding anything we decided to head back to the truck and find a different spot. We went back over several ridges again and we could not find the truck. We hiked around for what seemed like forever looking for the truck. We were lost. Our water was gone. There was only one way to go at that point and it was down the mountian. I bet we put in 7 or 8 miles. Finally we found the road and were able to hike back up to the truck.

We both swore we would buy a GPS after that. Still it was a fun day. We were dead tired and so were the dogs. Not wanting to go home empty handed, we tried a couple of other spots on the way out. We were lucky enough to flush one young Blue that we shot.

Here is Cowboy with the retrieve.

I tried the macro feature on my small camera for the first time. The focus could have been better, but I think I have a masterpiece that will be displayed in a photography show some day for the title alone. I present to you.....

Man I can't wait to get out. Looks like a great time. The GPS is sounding like a good idea

What kind of grouse is that? It looks like a ruffed to me...

The grouse was a small Blue. Jinx (liver GSP) found me two ruffs on the way back to the truck. He had two nice points on both but I didn't do my part and couldn't get a shot off quick enough. :x The areas we hunt over here hold about a 50/50 mix of ruffs and blues.
