Last weekend's hunt

Post by setternewbie » Mon Oct 22, 2012 2:09 pm

I know it's JUST pen raised birds, and all that, but it's my first bird dog....I'm just happy some of my work with him paid off. He's just 8 months now. It was the 3rd "live" hunt with him. He pointed 12 birds planted over about 25 acres. He held points, worked close when I kept him close, ran bigger when we had bigger ground to cover and didn't bust or creep on a single one. He would "whoa" each time I stopped him usually in mid step and wait until released with a tap on the head. I had one retrieve and he found and pointed every other dead or cripple except the one in the tree. Grouse starts here on the 26th and I CAN'T WAIT to get him into some wild birds. It's been fun and I'm learning twice as much as the dog each time.

sorry no shipping of perishable items available. The chef does however work for birds. Get me to birds and we can shoot what we can shoot and I'll fry you whatever you want.

Looks like a great time with you and your pup. That is what it is about getting out with the dog. Whatever the venue.

Thats a nice looking dog! He seems to be doing very well for 8 months, sounds like you guys are about ready for the real deal.
