Last weekend

Post by ACooper » Tue Dec 18, 2012 8:30 pm

Got out again here in OK. Was fortunate to find several coveys of quail and some pheasants. Had some excellent dog work on the quail, Dez got a little loose on the pheasants, we are working on it...

You have some pretty nice cover down there to hunt. Our is much thinner than normal.
How many coveys to you generally find in a days hunt?

If you notice, one of the fields was hayed and only patches and edges of cover are left, I would rather it had been burnt but the the birds don't seem to mind.

To be honest I have far fewer places to hunt this year, because they were mowed for hay and a lack of good crops. We are still able to find a few coveys, for us quail numbers are down from last year and pheasant numbers appear to be up very slightly. Shoot I have few places to duck hunt even, ponds are literally 100% dry.

We kill very few quail off most of the places I hunt, I will shoot one on occasion for the dogs when they have done it right.

Nice pics Coop. Dogs look good.
Any day in the field is a good day in my book.
Boy I understand the whole pheasant thing.
We need some cooler weather and some snow to keep an from running.

Coop, glad things are looking up in the panhandle! I heard some dismal reports from the Guymon area that had me a little worried. Thanks for the photos.
