some fun days guiding at Rasawek preserve in VA

Post by phoenix » Sun Jan 06, 2013 4:30 pm

I read here more than I post with the exception of my late buddy Duff. I get to get out around 30 days a year & love to chase birds. I hunt mostly grouse but have added WC & quail this year. I was offered the opportunity to guide at Rasawek this year & since I have two young pups (birds make dogs right) decided to give it a shot. Rasawek is not a planted bird preserve its run off a prerelease & stocking program. We hunt covey birds & they fly great. I have seen covey rises from 4-5 birds to coveys of 30 plus. Anyway its been a great experience & the pups have really improved. Here are a few pics!

I just went to Rasawek this past weekend (with Phoenix guiding) and I can say that it was unbelievable. My dog, who has never backed, managed to honor the other dog's points. Afterwards, they cleaned the birds for us and made us a phenomenal meal. Hands down my best hunting experience yet. I highly recommend Rasawek. And without further adieu, pics or it didn't happen ;-)

Great place, great people at Rasawek! Spent yesterday there on a photoshoot with Nancy Whitehead and got to watch the morning hunt come in. Happy hunters, smiling guides, great dogs and fine eats. A must hunt for anyone in VA.

BTW, that was a great looking Vizsla and Jax is always spectacular.

My dog's not spoiled ... I'm just well trained

Glad you guys had fun! Your dog is quite nice. I think he will really come into his own as he has more bird contact and his confidence grows. You have a good one there & you are going to enjoy him over the years!
