Re: Complete Hunting Breed
I know a guy who uses his for wild hogs, squirrel, duck, dove, rabbit, deer(tracking wounded and dead, not running them), turkey, coyote, and that's just for the fun stuff. Through the week that same dog is his best ranch hand sorting and herding cattle.

I think any breed is capable of hunting anything you want. All a matter of training and exposure

There would be evidence aplenty to exemplify your description but humans use many items, tools and critters, to enable successful hunting.polmaise wrote:PREDATOR !Mountaineer wrote:HumanESS13 wrote:The best all around hunting breed for hunting anything anywhere. Go.

If you desire your "complete dog" to point upland birds the black mouth cur, wachtelhund and African dog are not options.

True, but I don't believe that pointing was a requirement.Georgia Boy wrote:If you desire your "complete dog" to point upland birds the black mouth cur, wachtelhund and African dog are not options.

Georgia Boy, clearly there are some facetious folks responding to this post. But if you want to be serious, I repeat, pointing was not one of the OP's prerequisites.Georgia Boy wrote:ESS13 wrote:The best all around hunting breed for hunting anything anywhere. A dog need not point to hunt upland birds. A flusher works for a great many hunters.

Lab. I use mine for upland birds, doves, when I waterfowl hunted she traveled the country with me, I flush and shoot rabbits over her and she will tree and retrieve squirrels.
I have also used her to herd sheep.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

I'd love to see a Yorker retrive a goose.

Re: Complete Hunting Breed
I think Georgia Boy wins for most complete dogs. He has posted some great photos of his dogs in the past retrieving everything imaginable with fur or feathers including some photos of the dogs mixing it up with hogs. Not many true versatiles like that out there. Nice job Georgia Boy.
You could live without a dog, but it would not be worthwhile.

Thanks. I have several more recent ones but have not been able to post pics as of late because it says they are to big? Not sure how to resize.mnaj_springer wrote:Are you his agent or something?madmurph wrote:I think Georgia Boy wins for most complete dogs.
