It's a tad early for mud bats isn't it?
Any idea how far south they migrate?

Hey,

I just got my Gun Dog today. Before I read the article on woodcocks somebody that is around and tracks them like you do. Is it a good article or not from your point of view.

These birds are so COOL. I remember when I was about 10 years old, (won't say how long ago that was) my Dad had taken me out mushroom hunting, and I experienced the mating flight of one of these birds from about 20 feet away.
This bird was oblivious to our presence, and we watched this bird spiral up about a hundred feet and then tumble back to the ground and pull out of the tumble just before it got to the ground.
I have hunted these birds for years, and think that they are just a fantastic bird to start a pup on.
I know there are people that will disagree with me on that last comment because some dogs are repulsed by the birds and do not retrieve them, but so far I have not had one of these dogs.
Be prepared to snap shoot these birds, as they do not give you much of an opportunity to shoot, which is why they are so much fun to hunt.

I've always thought of Bobwhite quail as my favorite gamebird, but the WC is now moving into the top spot with each one Sophie and I find this spring. I've been seeing and finding them in pairs. 6 birds so far. I get to work days this week, so I hope to see their evening mating flights too.

I've read your posts and the article in Gundog magazine on banding and I think thats great.
