Is anyone seeing woodcock in georgia?

Post by brookzee » Wed Dec 26, 2007 6:45 am

been hunting for them twice here in georgia and haven't found any yet. wandering if anyone else has found them? i have big open wet type bottoms, don't know if i am going about it right either?
i usually have an idea when they are down. we see them while duck hunting and haven't seen them that way either.

They are coming in late this year...I bet over the next couple of weeks they will start showing up.

Have found a few woodcock in Ga --but not in last 2 days. I would say there are about 40-50% of usual numbers normally seen. Perhaps the warm weather will bring a few back.

I am finding them in NW Alabama along a creek botton in low wet areas with hardwood timber.

My dad owns a Plantation in Washington, Georgia. We were out training a young dog the other day and she pointed a woodcock. I thought it was going to be a quail until we flushed it up. I had never seen one before then.

I just got on them a week before the season closed. Honestly i never thought about hunting them but since the quail are hard to find. i went out and it was a blast!
