A Duck Hunt.
Late last night I got the invite to take a boat ride with Donnerhund GWP's. I was planning on getting out again on foot and I was really excited about the chance to go out in a boat. I was even more excited when he said it would be OK to bring Cowboy along. Mark's dogs are very well behaved and Cowboy is a wild man. I don't think Mark knew what he was getting in to letting a Pointer in the boat.
Cowboy started of with some very nice retrieves. He kept bringing back all the decoys that Mark threw out.
Here's Sam. She has incredible manners. She sat patiently in the blind with an eye to the sky while Cowboy bounced off the walls.
It wasn't long till we had ducks coming in. We missed plenty. Mark connected on one and sent Sam out for the retrieve.
The impressive part was that it was a blind retrieve. "Hang a right."
A little Green Wing Teal.
It didn't take too long for Cowboy to figure out how to play the game.
Finally I connected with one and Cowboy launched out of the boat just like a dock jumping Lab.
Sam.
Calling 'em in.
I knocked down another and Cowboy fearlessly went in. Sam honored nicely.
Cowboy.
Sam.
In the end we had 5 Green Wings, 1 Blue Wing, 1 Spooner, and 1 Mallard.
Big thanks to my host, guide, boat captain, and all around good guy Donnerhund GWP's (Mark).
The obligatory creative shot....

Sweet Rob you always seem to hunt with everyone else with Gwp's except me, lets see Tex, Zim, Donnerhund, heck when is it my turn to host that awesome pointer on some Montana Sharptails?
Has nothing to do with luck just boot leather and a fine GWP...

That is a cool hunt. Your Pointer now has the eyes of a Duck dog, love it. Ross is going to like seeing this post.

Nice pictures. Thank you.
Re: A Duck Hunt.
Do you think it should be blocked from Ross's computer. He might be over excited and cause himself bodily harm Patting himself on the back and while tellling us all "I told you so".
Great pics 12 Volt. Mark must be a really good shot to get that many birds.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

AP that is a trip I would love to make. I do seem to hunt with a lot of Good Lookin' Ugly Dawgs. Let me know the dates for next year and I'll see what I can do to make the trip.Anaconda Pintler wrote:Sweet Rob you always seem to hunt with everyone else with Gwp's except me, lets see Tex, Zim, Donnerhund, heck when is it my turn to host that awesome pointer on some Montana Sharptails?
It's not hard to out shoot me. I have an empty box of 3 inch shells and a bruise on my shoulder to prove it.ezzy333 wrote:Mark must be a really good shot to get that many birds.

Very nice pictures!!! For some reason, I can never seem to stop hunting long enough to take pictures....even when the "action" is a bit slow. Always sure that the "next one" is lining up for a surprise strafing run!

I learned a little about that this trip. Every time I started messing with the camera, I missed a chance at some ducks.

Looks like a great time. I really like the pictures. Where did you go? I haven't had a chance to get out yet this year, but I hope to soon. Shasta is driving me nuts, she needs to get out, too.

Cowboy ROCKS!!!
Your pics are great!! What did Donnerhund think of Cowboy??
BTW, it's easy to train Pointers to handle blinds just like the ugly dogs!!

You need to get out Loke. It was a great time (and I'm not even a duck hunter). I enjoyed eating them though. I'm probably in the market for a set of waders for me and a neoprene vest for Cowboy.Loke wrote:Looks like a great time. I really like the pictures. Where did you go? Ross,
Mark is a die hard trainer and runs his dogs in NAVHDA. His dogs are top notch. I think he was impressed until Cowboy dropped a deuce on the bow of his boat

Love it!...until Cowboy dropped a deuce on the bow of his boat.
You know that I enjoy the athleticism, speed, style and class of a Pointer, but I also enjoy hunting behind good NAVHDA UT dogs.

I hope to get out this week, we'll have a break in the marching band schedule, and some time off of work. I may end up at Farmington Bay. I haven't been out on the dikes in the middle of the week, but I hear they're not the zoo they are on the weekends and holidays.

Mainly Dogs are helpful in hunting like Ducks Fish and Rabbits in any type of hunting they are very helpful. They can run fastly to catch the target. Thats why they are also useful in robber catching. They have good memory power also they can remember the things very well.
