Are there Sharptails in Kansas??????????

Post by CimarronGSPs » Sun Oct 19, 2008 11:33 pm

I am an aspiring prairie grouse hunter and enthusiast. In fact, my favorite posts have been from those of you who post pictures and stories of your exploits. My research brought me across the group North America Grouse Partnership. It seems that their goals are noble and have the grouse's interest at heart. My question is: Does Kansas have sharptails? Have they been here? & Is there an effort to reestablish a huntable population? The basis for this comes from the NAGP website. http://www.grousepartners.org/birds.htm#stg

I vaugely remember reading an article in the late 90's about Sharptail re-establishment efforts in Kansas by the KDWP. I most likeley read about it in the KDWP magazine. I did a quick search to see if I could refresh my foggy memory here is what I found. not much.

From 1992. some background on Sharptails in Kansas and original re-establishment efforts.

For current info I would advise contacting KDWP themselves. I think Pratt would be who to contact but if not they'll point you in the right direction.
