Gambel's Quail Hunt

Post by cgbirddogs » Tue Nov 18, 2008 10:56 am

It's still a bit warm out, but all and all a really good time. These photos were taken in Northern Arizona with friends "Chasin Mearns" and Bob, both who own dogs I raised.

First up is "The old man" Chairman sticking a nice covey. When the young'uns can out hunt him, then I'll start leaving him at home. Until then, he's the man.

Next is Chase owned by my friend Bob. Chase is out of a daughter of Chairman and RU Ch. CHKI Dancing Horse. He turned out really nice.

Chasing Mearns with Bucky, a son of Chairman. Bucky is chip off the old block.

Last, but certainly not least is GBK's Mustang Sally who is rapidly becoming my favorite "go to" dog. She's out of Ch. Shadow's Attitude. I can see why people love to breed to that dog if he's putting out fire like the one I have.

We all really had a great time chasing Gambel's in the Arizona terrain. However, I need to get me one of those fancy Nikon D90 so I can take better pictures!

So how is the gambels population in Northern Arizona this year? I know last year it wasn't much.

I am ready to get after them little mothers again. . .only 3 weeks til I get back from Iraq. I am chomping at the bit. . .

Good numbers. My shooting is still horrible, but I can't blame it on lack of birds.

I took her to the location where those photos were taken the week before, but did not get a photo of her on point. In her typical "Maddie" fashion, she took right to Gambel's and was pointing them like she had been hunting them her entire life. I'm on the way to quail hunt this morning, and have Maddie loaded in the truck. I'll make sure to capture her on digital today.
